Our gardens are finally done for the season on this late November day and covered in a blanket of snow. Well, except some herbs that carry on through the winter, such as sage and thyme. My friend’s son went to Alaska to spend the summer working for his grandmother. When he came back you could see the excitement in his eyes, eager to tell us about his experience. What an adventure! To my delight farmer John sent back a slew of greens; Mustard, Kale and Collards. He also sent back a shopping bag full of a variety of lettuces, including arugula. This is the perfect time of year for all of the greens such as kale, mustard, Swiss chard, Chinese, etc. Don’t pull up those greens yet! They will taste even sweeter after a frost. Let them grow, you will be surprised how long they will continue to grow, sometimes a snow doesn’t even hurt them. [Read more...]

Last week Farmer John sent back a ton of produce! I was blown away, he had such a poor summer growing season but his fall crop was great.
