What to do with all those Tomatoes!
In Central Ohio September is the biggest tomato month. Tomatoes have started ripening in mid July and we got to enjoy them in August. Now in September it seems as if all the tomatoes left on the vine ripen at once and we are looking for something to do with them. With the heat I have had a bumper crop this year! In the picture above I have been picking this many tomatoes every 3 days for the last 3 weeks! We have been enjoying them many different ways from sandwiches, eating out of hand and the numerous recipes found on my website. I have also had the pleasure of sharing with friends and family, something I haven’t been able to do for years! What have I been doing with all the extras?
I have made 2 big stockpots of “Freezer Tomato Sauce”, made many containers of “Chili Starter” and numerous pans of “Oven Dried Tomatoes”. All of these techniques and recipes can be found under tomatoes as well as “Freezing Tomatoes”.
Enjoy the fresh tomatoes now and fill the freezer to enjoy the bounty throughout the winter. It’s exciting to have a freezer full of homemade goodness.
